Curve sets auditions for national anthem

The Altoona Curve will host auditions for national anthem and “God Bless America” performers on Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Logan Valley Mall, Altoona.

Vocalists, musicians, and groups of all ages are invited to audition.

Registration opens at 9 a.m. with auditions beginning at 9:30 a.m., registration will close at 10:30 a.m. Lyrics can be provided upon request. Digital submissions will also be accepted until 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, and can be submitted at https://www.milb.com/altoona/fans/contests#

Performers that are selected, whether they auditioned in-person or submitted digitally, will be contacted by March 17 to set a game date. All performers that are selected must be dressed in clean, appropriate clothing for their performance. Those that have already been contacted by a representative of the Curve do not need to audition again for the 2023 season.

Fundraiser set for Ebensburg man with ALS

A spaghetti dinner and basket raffle benefit for Barry Krug of Ebensburg will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday,

Feb. 26, at Our Lady of Loretto Community Hall, 279 St. Elizabeth St., Loretto.

Krug has been diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) and has required various equipment and renovations for the family to properly care for him at home.

The dinner is $10 per person. Basket winners will be drawn at 4 p.m.

Children’s dance workshops begin Feb. 27

Penn State Altoona will host a six-week series of children’s dance workshops from Feb. 27 to April 3 at the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts.

Classes will be held from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Mondays and are suitable for children ages 4-8.

The workshops will focus on creativity and movement. Children will be guided through coordination and expressive movement warmups, experiences and improvisations culminating in a final performance.

This piece will be performed during the Ivyside Dance Ensemble concert April 13 and 14.

Classes will be taught by KT Huckabee, teaching professor of dance, coordinator for performing arts, and director of Ivyside Dance Ensemble at Penn State Altoona. No prior dance experience is required or expected.

Students should come dressed in clothing that allows for full physical movement and will be dancing barefoot. The final performance is free of charge.
