Sales of paperbacks written by local authors to aid historical society

The Blair County Historical Society based at Baker Mansion has for sale several new books to benefit the society, said Dr. Michael Farrow, president of the board of directors.

The paperbacks range in price from $2 to $12 and are available for sale in the Baker Mansion museum store located on the mansion grounds at 3419 Oak Lane, Altoona.

Among the new titles are “Altoona Silk Mill History and Rebirth,” “Fetus Hollinger: The Story of a Freed Slave from the Antebellum South in Altoona,” “Narration of Major John Thomas of Altoona to the Mountain City Base Ball Club: A Former Slave’s views on the Civil War,” researched and written by Farrow and “10 Blair County Mysteries,” a collection of short stories written by the late John Orr and illustrated by Altoona artist Joe Servello.

The museum store also has for sale a variety of titles by local authors, including local historian Jared Frederick’s “Fierce Valor.”
