Yesteryear-Gooldschmidt building

Built in the first decade of the 20th century, the Goldschmidt building at the corner of 11th Avenue and 12th Street, presently the site of IDA towers, was one of the largest office and retail buildings in the city. This photo, taken in the 1950s shows the Fanny Farmer candy store and a small portion of the Mt. City Trust Co. bank to the right, on 12th Street. The building was demolished during Altoona’s downtown redevelopment of the 1960s and 1970s. The photo was submitted by Michael Farrow of the Blair County Historical Society.
