Local NFL player’s wife authors children’s book

Tina Flanagan of Altoona has written a children’s book that provides encouragement and uses her husband, former NFL player Ed Flanagan, as inspiration.

The book is called, “Football Dreams Do Come True.”

“I wrote this book to inspire young boys and girls who play sports in the park, that dreams do come true,” Tina Flanagan said. “By believing in yourself, getting good grades in school, combined with hard work and determination, they can accomplish anything.”

Tina Flanagan said she began the project while the family lived in Colorado.

“I began writing this book about my son, Dan, and his friends, and then decided to include my husband and the important role he played throughout his career in the NFL,” she said. “It was a fun book to write.”

Ed Flanagan, an Altoona native, played 12 years in the NFL (1965-76) and was an all-pro center with Detroit.

“Dan and his friends would run in the park, and Ed would help the kids with their football positions,” Tina said.

The 24-page book, priced at $9.99, is aimed for children ages 5 through 9.

It is published by Covenant Books, an international Christian publishing house in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, and is available at bookstores, through Amazon or Barnes and Noble or at the AppleiTunes store.

“Tina wrote a nice story about the kids,” Ed Flanagan said. “She always wanted to be a writer. She’s definitely a better writer than I am.”
