BackPack program seeks volunteers, partners

Mountain Lion summer session begins June 17

The Mountain Lion BackPack program is gearing up for its summer program and seeking volunteers and churches to partner with the outreach.

The summer program will run from Friday, June 17, through Friday, Aug. 19. The group is looking for churches interested in participating as pick-up points for families.

Volunteers are sought to help pack the food and transport the filled bags to the churches either Thursday evenings or Friday mornings.

The program provides food for about 700 children each week in the Altoona Area School District.

Volunteers are invited to help pack the bags at 5 p.m. Thursdays at the program’s warehouse, 2900 Beale Ave.

Letters to parents/ guardians will be sent home with children in the coming weeks so families can sign up for the program and choose a site/time.
