50 years ago: State agriculture secretary Jim McHale visited the Altoona Mirror newsroom to talk about Gov. Milton Shapp’s farm programs and was interviewed by Assistant Farm Editor Frank Polito.
25 years ago: PennDOT, Ron Samuel engineer, was starting a program called VMO or virtual maintenance organizations that would share road repairs with communities the roads were in and the pilot program was to begin in Altoona.
10 years ago: The U.S. Justice Dept. was investigating possible civil rights violations at the State Correctional Institution at Cresson after complaints were filed by a group from Philadelphia called the Human Rights Coalition.
