50 years ago:Douglas W. Wright, local bond chairman, said that as of the end of October, Blair County residents had purchased $3.8 million in U.S. Savings Bonds which put them 27% over the year’s goal of $3.5 million.

25 years ago: Even though traffic was down 46% on old Route 220 now that I-99 was opened in 1994, most restaurants and businesses along Route 22 next to Altoona said that business was just fine.

10 years ago: Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust of Philadelphia, owners of the Logan Valley Mall, dropped their appeal of Blair County’s tax assessment of $995,700. Blair had spent $5,000 toward a $20,000 reappraisal, non-refundable.
