Historic Hollidaysburg to host Candlelight Christmas events

Historic Hollidaysburg, Inc. will hold its 30th annual Candlelight Christmas Open House events at Historic Hollidaysburg Museum, Jacob Walters 1820 Log Cabin Homestead and Blair County Genealogical Society Library, from 3 to 7 p.m. Dec. 4 and 5.

The theme “175 years of Christmas,” coincides with the 175th anniversary of the formation of Blair County. The restored 200-year-old 1820 Jacob Walters Log cabin at 819 Third Ave., Duncansville, will showcase the early 1800s to 1880s. The 1872-built Hollidaysburg House Museum, 516 Walnut St., Hollidaysburg, will feature decorations from 1880s to 1980s complete with reenactors in period appropriate clothing.

The Blair County Genealogical Society Library at 431 Scotch Valley Road, Hollidaysburg, will serve as a complimentary refreshment stop for ticket holders and will offer tours of their building.

Decorations in both the HHI Museum and Walters Cabin will feature handmade decorations with cut greens, fruit and handmade ornaments. Additionally, a collection of vintage and antique decorations from primitive and early American, to Victorian, WWII era, mid-century modern and retro 1970 and ’80s will be featured.

This event is a fundraiser to raise money for the annual budget and ongoing renovations to our 150 year old house museum. Tickets available at the door, $10 per person, 15 and under free, cash only

“HHI has participated in several of the Blair County 175th Anniversary events over this year so far and we felt we should end the year on a festive note by looking at Christmas and holiday traditions over the time span that Blair County has existed.” Joshua Juda, society president, said. “With that wide time span of decorations, toys and themes, plus reenactors in period correct clothing, we will have something to offer the public that is very unique.”

Historic Hollidaysburg, Inc is a 501c3 Nonprofit Historical Society celebrating 40 years.
