Altoona Area High School 2021 Homecoming Queen Brooke Harrington presented a check for $1,000 on behalf of the AAHS Homecoming Committee to representatives of the Central PA Autism Society on Wednesday, Oct. 20.

The money was collected by students during Homecoming Week activities through donations from the “can” campaign, Dance Night tickets and Games Night activities. The Homecoming Committee selected Central PA Autism Society as this year’s benefactor. Funds raised during Homecoming Week are used for a selected cause and scholarship for the homecoming queen and two runner-up candidates.

Central PA Autism Society board member Anita Young and her daughter, Mia, accepted the check on behalf of the organization. “We are honored to accept this check and so thankful for the students for selecting to support our group,” Anita Young said. “This donation will go toward helping fund our events scheduled for the kids this year. Our winter events include a trip to JB Tree farm and a Christmas celebration with a sensory friendly Santa and craft activities.”

The Central PA Autism Society supports families in a five-county area — Blair, Bedford, Cambria, Centre and Huntingdon.
