Money raised to help purchase service dogs for people with disabilities

Service Paws of Central PA held its fifth annual golf tournament on July 22 at Park Hills Country Club.

This was a four-person scramble for all skill levels and there were prizes for each golfer (gift cards donated by more than 200 area businesses), as well as skill contests. The team with the lowest score was the Robert Ruggiero team (Robert Ruggiero, Quinton Dizabo, Steve Perove and Dave Rito) at 18 under par.

The second-place team (Brad Kissell, Levi Delozier, Michael Cohen and Mark Saltzburg) representing Sylvan Veterinary Hospital was 14 under par.

The third-place team (Bill Filler, Cris Wesner, Vance Villano and Doug Buchannon) representing Encompass

Health was 13 under par.

Chris Wesner won the putting contest.

Courtesy Motors offered a new Ford to the first person to get a hole in one, but no one met that challenge. However, a runner-up prize was awarded to Quinton Dizabo who got within 10 feet of the pin.

There were five skill contest winners; $25 gift cards went to Doug Buchanan, Peggie Smith, Steve Whiting, Bill Filler and Reggie Hoover.

The raffle package winners were Bob Ruggiero, Randy Diviney, Cathy Greenland, Tiahna Kovarik, Clara Webber, Courtney Musser, Melissa Whiting and Von Villano.

Carol Bergamaschi won the 50-50 drawing and donated a portion back to Service Paws.

The Early Birdie Drawing was won by Kooman & Associates.

Service Paws of Central PA is a local nonprofit organization established to financially assist those in need of a service dog, and/or those who may already have a service dog and need help with extraordinary veterinary expenses. Ninety-nine percent of every dollar raised goes directly to the clients.

The golfers enjoyed dinner on the patio at Park Hills, where the prizes were distributed.

The highlight of the day was presentations from three service dog handlers, which were sponsored by SPCP. Each of them had a story of how the dogs impacted their families.

A net profit of more than $17,000 was reached thanks to the help of those listed below:
