Altoona City Council adopted a new snow removal ordinance and was erecting 700 new snow emergency route signs along city streets and mobile snow removal route signs could also be posted eight hours in advance.

25 years ago:

Oct. 14, 1996

A “keyhole” heart operation was performed for the first time at Altoona Hospital by Dr. John Anastasi and Dr. Burt Fazi, only requiring a small incision between the ribs. The patient also was able to go home days earlier than traditional surgeries.

10 years ago:

Oct. 14, 2011

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission charged two Hollidaysburg men with boating under the influence and other charges after they launched a raft in the swollen Juniata River and had to be rescued.
