Plein Air workshop set

The Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art in Loretto will host a Plein Air Painting Workshop with Ron Donoughe at the museum from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1, and Saturday, Oct. 2. Cost for the two-day workshop is $75 for nonmembers or $65 for SAMA members.

The workshop will start with morning demonstrations and instruction on light, color, composition and brushwork. In the afternoon, Donoughe will work individually with each student. Those attending should bring lunch. At the end of Saturday, Ron will lead a critique of the group’s work.

Materials of all varieties are welcome, including paints or drawing materials of choice as well as some surfaces to test ideas and techniques. Artists with all levels of experience can benefit.

It is recommended that artists bring an outdoor easel, oil paints or the medium of choice, brushes, a minimum of toned canvas or panels suggested size 5×7 to 9×12, odorless mineral spirits and paper towels, a sketch pad and pencils, a hat and water.
