Deborah Muldoon of Altoona was elected the first Miss Central Blair United Fund at the United Fund kickoff dinner at the Penn Alto Hotel. Miss Muldoon worked as a communicator for the State Police.

Sept. 22, 1996

Altoona native John Pielmeier, who became famous when he wrote a Broadway play, later made a movie, called Agnes of God, was presenting a one-may play at Penn State Playhouse in State College called “Willi: An Evening of Wilderness and Spirit.”

Sept. 22, 2011

A group called PennEnvironment, Charley Dorsaneo Clean Energy associate, released a list that had Pennsylvania named sixth in the nation on a list for smog pollution and Altoona 21st in the nation for small metropolitan areas.
