BALM Family Recovery Program to begin Aug. 3

Stacey Karchner, a family recovery life coach through the BALM (Be A Loving Mirror) Family Recovery Program, will teach a free course for those in Blair County who are affected by another’s substance use disorder/addiction.

The eight-week course, which is sponsored by Blair County Drug and Alcohol Partnerships, begins Aug. 3 and will be held from 5:45 to 8:15 p.m. Tuesdays at Blair County D&A Partnerships, 3001 Fairway Drive, Altoona.

The course is a component of the BALM program consisting of 12 lessons.

Lessons include topics such as The Crucial Role the Family Plays, Leverage and Boundaries, Motivational Interviewing, Enabling vs Helping, Responding vs. Reacting, Self-Care and Mindfulness.

Family members find a new perspective and learn new ways of being, acting and speaking without anger and judgment, becoming the chief supporter rather than the obstacle.

To enroll for the course, contact Karchner at 814-360-7590 or skarchner9@gmail.com.
