Chernisky Classic set for July 11: Incentives offered for registering this weekend

EBENSBURG — The sixth annual Chernisky Classic 5K Run/Walk & 10K Run will be held at 9:05 a.m. July 11, beginning and ending at the Young People’s Community Center, 300 Prave St.

Anyone who registers on June 20 or 21 will receive 56 ounces of ice cream from Vale Wood Farms Dairy Store, a large fries from Heroes Tavern, one free lane rental from Ironside Axe, 20% off Pirates, Steelers and Penguins merchandise at the Pittsburgh Gift Shop and 15% off merchandise at Up-N-Running.

Retailers will email individuals coupon vouchers within seven days by June 28.

All finishers receive a voucher to a Johnstown Tomahawks game for the 2020-21 season.

Registration includes an American-Made T-shirt or tank top.

Please make appropriate choice during online checkout. Paper registration forms are availabe at Up-N-Running in downtown Ebensburg.

This year, only 401 registrants will be accepted.

Online registration will be accepted until July 6 for $28. Race day registration (shirt not guaranteed) is $33.

There is a discount for groups of 10 or more ($20 per participant). Fill out separate registration forms for each person and place into one envelope with check (mail-in registration only).

There also is a discount for firefighters who run/walk in turnout gear ($20 per participant, mail-in registration only).

No refunds will be issued.

Race Day registration will be held from 8:05 to 8:50 a.m.

This is a family-friendly event that includes an out-and-back 5K and 10K course on the nationally recognized Ghost Town Trail, as well as a free Firecracker Race for kids 8 and younger.

Firetrucks and firefighters will be at the event to greet and interact with kids. All proceeds benefit the Training Facility of the Volunteer Fireman’s Association of Cambria County.

An announcement will be made no later than July 7 should any changes be made to the date or time of this event.

Online registrants will be notified promptly of any changes via email, and information will be shared on the Chernisky Classic event on Facebook.

This event will happen either as planned or with modification.

Both the 5K and 10K out-and-back courses take place on the Ghost Town Trail, a nationally recognized rail-trail in Cambria County that has been named the 2020 Trail of the Year.

5K participants will pass by a water station at the turnaround point; 10K participants will pass by water station twice. Restrooms are located at the start/finish line.
