Claysburg foundation sets 2020 Summer STEM Arts Program Program scheduled for June, July

CLAYSBURG — The Claysburg Education Foundation will hold a 12-day “Stem and the Arts 2020 Program” for students from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 15 to 18, July 6 to 9 and July 20 to 23 at Claysburg-Kimmel School District.

This project is being coordinated by Claysburg-Kimmel School District with parents of Claysburg-Kimmel providing support services. Funding is being provided by the Claysburg Education Foundation with volunteer support from the Claysburg area community.

Registration online is open to Claysburg-Kimmel students entering grades five through 12.

Michelle Guyer of Claysburg-Kimmel is the coordinator for the event.

This is a “kicked up version from prior years. Participants will have a focused but fun curriculum on “Mars Colony/Space,” “Science of Sport” and “Medieval Technol-ogy,” plus technology and other areas and some field trips to be announced later.

There will be two hours of STEM activities each day along with two hours of other programs including the arts and other areas.

There will be a 30-minute lunch program which is included in the package and a 30-minute daily special project building session that includes rocket building for the last week of activities.

The cost of the program is $25 per student.

There will be several talks and demonstrations by some guest speakers. Details will be announced at a later time. These are open to the general public and this includes parents, students, teachers and community members and will be held in the Claysburg-Kimmel auditorium.

There will be daily experiments, art and other fun for kids. Guest speakers will be introducing students to the amazing world of STEM and art careers. Students, volunteers and teachers including other school districts can apply to instruct at https://www.claysburg



This is part of the foundation’s continuing efforts to provide local students in central Pennsylvania the opportunity to explore and study beyond the normal day to day classroom studies.

These will be fun-filled days with many different types of projects.

The foundation’s goal is to help provide learning success stories to students.

We encourage you to visit the website and view the various tabs on the information concerning the Claysburg Education Foundation. During the last 12 months, the Claysburg Education Foundation has funded $167,000 for education-based projects and more than $500,000 in the past 5 ¢ years.

Registration is currently open to Claysburg-area students. On April 16, all remaining slots will be open to students from any school district.

The deadline for registering children is May 15.

Students will be accepted on a first-come first-registered basis.
