Blair Garden Club offers scholarship
The Blair Garden Club of Altoona is offering a $1,000 scholarship to eligible high school seniors.
The requirements for this scholarship are as follows:
Applicant must be a resident of Blair County.
Students must be interested in pursuing further education in one of the following areas of study: agricultural education, botany, city planning, ecology, environmental engineering, environmental science, floriculture/floral design, forestry, horticulture, landscape architecture and design, nursery production/management, plant pathology/science, soil science/conservation, turf management or wildlife science.
Graduating high school students who meet the qualifications are urged to contact their high school guidance counselor to obtain an application or contact Sue Brower at 696-1500 or Bev Kennedy at 942-1953.
The deadline for completed applications is April 3.
Horseshoe Seniors plan valentine dance
The Horseshoe Seniors will hold a special Valentine’s Day dinner-dance featuring The San Tones Orchestra Thursday at the Bavarian Hall, 112 S. 13th St., Altoona.
Dinner is at 5:30 p.m., followed by three hours of dancing. Singles and couples are welcome.
Admission is by purchasing tickets for $15 each at three locations: Thompson Pharmacy in Hollidaysburg, Thompson Pharmacy on Chestnut Avenue Altoona or the Bavarian Hall. Tickets must be purchased by Monday.
This will be a fun evening for seniors, and new people are encouraged to come out and enjoy a time of friendship, entertainment and companionship with others. This dinner-dance is a monthly event usually held the third Thursday of every month.

Swinging Squares to dance Thursday
The Swinging Squares Square and Round Dance Club will hold a Valentine’s Day dance from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday at Jaggard United Methodist Church, 1801 Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona.
Dances are on Thursday nights. Club caller is Howard Williamson, and the club cuer is Donna Williamson.
It is free to watch. Class member fee is $4. Nonmember fee is $4.50.

Chimrocks announce dance schedule
HOLLIDAYSBURG — The Chimrock Square & Round Dance Club will meet from 7 to 9 p.m. on the first and third Sunday of each month beginning in March at the Masonic Hall, 1008 Edgar St.
The cost is $5 to dance. It is free to observe.
The schedule follows:
March 1 — Regular dance.
March 15 — Special dance from 2 to 5 p.m. It is the club’s 49th anniversary.
April 5 — Regular dance.
April 19 — “Take Me Out to the Ballgame.”
May 3 — Mothers Day Dance, homemade sundaes.
May 17 — Regular dance.
