Nedy Mae Settles Woodland

Nedy Mae Settles Woodland of Trenton, N.J., formerly of Claysburg, will mark her 106th birthday with a celebration in her honor with her family and friends in Trenton.

She was born Feb. 23, 1914, in Bennettsville, S.C., to the Rev. Charles and Carrie Lou Settles. The family relocated to Claysburg when Nedy was an infant.

Nedy married Jesse Woodland of Little Rock, Ark.

He was employed at General Refractories, Claysburg, for many years.

They had nine children: Betty, Clarence (deceased), Marcile, Jessie Mae, Curtis, Donna Marie (deceased), Ivy, Joanne and Joan (twins).

They have many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and great-great-great-grandchildren.

She is the only survivor of 10 children, which included Lucy, Nedy, Bertha, Ar-tina, Fan-nie, Pres-ton, Walter, Willie, John and Harold.

Nedy was raised a Christian, attending Mount Moriah Church of God in Christ, Claysburg, which was founded by her father.

As the years passed, the family relocated to Trenton, N.J., where she currently resides.
