Claysburg PAST sets trivia night

CLAYSBURG — Claysburg Preserving Artifacts, Stories and Traditions (PAST) is teaming with the Claysburg Volunteer Fire Company to sponsor the seventh annual Trivia Night Contest and Turkey Dinner Feb. 29 at the Claysburg Township Center on Bedford Street.

The doors will open at 5:30 p.m. with dinner at 6 p.m. Trivia begins at 7 p.m.

All proceeds will benefit the Claysburg Area Volunteer Fire Company.

Even though the event is sponsored by Claysburg PAST, the trivia is not Claysburg trivia.

At the end of the contest, prizes will be awarded to teams as follows: first place, $150; second place, $125; third place, $100; and fourth place, $75.

Teams may consist of one to eight people.

A limited amount of tickets are available.

Attendees must be at least 21 years old.

Throughout the evening, ticketholders will be eligible for random drawings of cash prizes of $100, $75 and $50. Five $20 prizes will also be awarded.

German group plans fish dinners

The Altoona Almrausch Schuhplattlers German dance group will hold their 13th annual fish dinners from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Fridays from Feb. 28 to April 10 at the Unter Uns Club on Van Buren Avenue and 14th Street, Altoona.

This year, there will be no dinner on Ash Wednesday.

Dinners include a choice of baked or fried haddock, baked macaroni and cheese or scalloped potatoes, stewed tomatoes, cole slaw, rolls and butter. Homemade desserts and coffee will also be available for 50 cents each.

The dinners cost $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 4 to 10 and free for ages 3 and younger.

The dinners are open to the public. The club is smoke-free. Attendees will be served by the dancers.

Addiction topic of free training

Blair Drug and Alcohol Partnerships will provide a free one-hour training open to all community members.

“Understanding Addiction” will be held at 2 p.m. March 17 at Blair Drug and Alcohol Partnerships, 3001 Fairway Drive, Suite D, Altoona.

Registration is preferred by calling the Blair Drug and Alcohol Program at 381-0921.

Cash Bash set for March 14

ROARING SPRING — The Relay For Life of the Cove and the Roaring Spring Lions Club will host a Cash Bash at 6 p.m. March 14 at the Lions’ Shawnee Log Cabin. The doors will open at 5 p.m.

Donation $10 per person, includes munchies and beverage. The event is BYOB.

Participants must be 18 years or older and must have tickets to enter. They do not need to be present to win the regular drawings. A mystery drawing will be held at at 8:47 p.m. The winner must be present.

Tickets are available from Relay For Life of the Cove teams and Roaring Spring Lions Club members.

Tickets are also available at the following locations: Little Rock Herbs, Frederick’s Meat Market and Long’s Outpost.

Vendor fair, egg hunt set for March 7

HOLLIDAYSBURG — The Hollidaysburg Lady Tiger Softball Team will hold a Vendor Fair Eggstravaganza from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 7 in the Hollidaysburg Area Senior High School gym.

The event will include concessions, handmade crafts, customized items, jewelry, gifts, decorations, sweets, a basket raffle and more.

There will be an Easter egg hunt. Ages 3 and younger will start at 11 a.m., ages 4 to 6 will start at 11:20 a.m. and ages 7 to 10 will start at 11:40 a.m.

Admission is free.
