Hollidaysburg names WinterFest Parade winners
HOLLIDAYSBURG — The WinterFest Parade kicked off the holiday season Nov. 24 in Hollidaysburg Borough.
The parade was sponsored by American Legion Post 516 and had nearly 60 registered participants. Marching groups, bands, charities and businesses braved the cold to bring holiday cheer to the community.
Some organizations collected items from the public along the parade route.
Hollidaysburg Ambucs collected nonperishable food items for families in need, the Hollidaysburg Area Women’s Club collected letters for Santa with Mrs. Claus, and the U.S. Marine Corps partnered with local Scouts to collect items for the Toys for Tots program.
Parade participants were also able to compete in a friendly competition for the best-themed entry.
The theme for 2019 was “Sights and Sounds of the Season.”
Entries were judged on creativity, originality and holiday spirit by guest judges from the community.
Winners of the contest receive a cash prize. Outback Steakhouse took home the first-place prize for its gingerbread-themed float.
Trinity Lutheran Church was the second-place winner with its live nativity complete with a “burro in the Borough.”
The Pennsylvania Dairy Princesses won third place with the festive milk float.
