Morden Foundation announces fall spotlight
The Brian Morden Foundation has announced Kiera Chirdon as its fall BMC Cares Spotlight.
Kiera was born Oct. 22, 2000. During the next 16 1/2 years, Kiera lived an amazing life; fuller than many people much older than her.
She was diagnosed with epithelioid sarcoma at the age of 9, but she lived the remainder of her life courageously and
was able to enjoy her love of music, playing the
violin, and much more, despite many trips to Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Cincinnati for tests, surgeries and clinical trials.
Kiera also traveled with Father Kiel, family and friends to Medjugorje, Bosnia, where the Blessed Mother has been appearing since 1981.
After the pilgrimage to Medjugorje, her tumor disappeared. Her oncologist said it was miraculous.
Kiera inspired many with her courage, compassion, and cheerfulness. Always thinking of others, Kiera dreamed of having a concert with her orchestra friends to benefit the Brian Morden Foundation.
Kiera passed away months before her 17th birthday before she could fulfill that dream.
Next month, her dream will become a reality with the help of many, including her grandmother Cathy Chirdon and the Brian Morden Foundation.
“Kiera’s Dream: A Concert to Benefit the Brian Morden Foundation” will be held at 3 p.m. Dec. 8 at the Mishler Theatre, Altoona. Tickets are $12 and $32.
For tickets, visit the Mishler website.

At the request of Kiera’s family, the BMF CARES Spotlight program will donate $1,000 back to the Brian Morden Foundation so that local children with cancer will continue to be helped.
The Brian Morden Foundation based in Altoona was created in May 2003 to fight back against childhood cancer.
The Brian Morden Foundation CARES Spotlight began in January 2018.
The program is shining a light on children with cancer, raising awareness and providing funds for research, education and support for children with cancer and their families.
