‘In Step For Kids’ nets $5,400 for BBBS

Area residents got “In Step for Kids” with Community State Bank of Orbisonia, Sheetz Corp. and Big Brothers Big Sisters with the annual 5K Walk/Run Sept. 8 at the Lower Trail near Alexandria.

The event raised $5,400.

Awards were given immediately following the 5K race in designated age groups.

All proceeds from the 5K support Big Brothers Big Sisters Huntingdon Program, a nationally recognized youth mentoring program that matches local volunteers with local kids.

This annual Big Brothers Big Sisters event helps support community mentors who encourage every child to achieve their full potential through inspiring, igniting, defending their potential.

It also supports Students and Mentors Achieving Results Together, High School Big programs at Huntingdon County School District and Southern Huntingdon County School District, along with a Juniata College Students SMART program held Thursdays at the Stone Church of the Brethren.

BBBS looks forward to expanding its Huntingdon Program with the support of the community.

T-shirt sponsors were the Loyal Order of Moose Huntingdon Lodge 223, Park’s Garbage Service, Hunting Elks Lodge 876, Rail to Trails of Central PA Inc., SIO Smithfield Inmate Organization.

Donors, partners, supporters, volunteers included Giant Foods, Weis Market Huntingdon, Weis Market Mount Union, Altoona Mirror, Huntingdon Daily News, Forever Broadcasting, Nittany Valley Running Club, Ward Trucking Hearts & Hands Serving Others volunteers and Rails to Trails of Central PA.

Next year’s event will be held Sept. 13.
