Altoona library sets December activities

The Altoona Area Public Library, 1600 Fifth Ave., has announced its December activities.

n Children ages 2 to 4 can “Full STEAM Ahead” in a free program at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 3 and 17. Little learners can exploring basic STEAM concepts through simple experiments, projects and play. Registration in advance is required. Call 946-0417, ext. 123, to register.

n Meet and greet Altoona’s acupuncturist and speaker, Michael Cregger, L.Ac., of Lifeworks Health Center at 6 p.m. Dec. 5. Cregger is celebrating 30 years practicing acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. He will demonstrate and speak about acupuncture as a healthy lifestyle practice for people of all ages. n A free Sensory Story Time will be held at 6 p.m. Dec. 5, especially for children ages 2 to 16 with autism, special needs and sensory concerns. Children must be accompanied by a caregiver. This month’s theme: FISH! Call 946-0417, ext. 123, to register.

n The library will host an All Day Knit-In from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 7 in the board room. Come for a few hours or stay all day. Enjoy the company of others who enjoy doing handiwork. Teachers will be available. Beginners should take size 8 needles and some light-colored yarn. This is a free program.

n Children ages 6 to 13 are invited to join a Lego Club at the library. Regis-tration is required. Call the library at 946-0417, ext. 123, to register. (Lego Club A: 6:30 p.m. Dec. 9. Lego Club B: 6:30 p.m. Dec. 19).

n The book club will meet at 6:45 p.m. Dec. 9 in the alumni room. Decem-ber’s selection is “Never Let Me Go” by Kazuo Ishiguro.

n Join others at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 10 for a Waldorf-inspired time of storytelling, fingerplays, movement and songs, art and creative play celebrating nature and the seasons during “A Magical Garden.” Call 946-0417, ext. 123, to register.

n Teen Open Mic Night will be held at 6 p.m. Dec. 12 in the library theater. Teens can take the stage to sing, dance, act, play an instrument, recite poetry or do a dramatic reading. All language, dress and actions should be appropriate (PG rated). To register your act, call 946-0417, ext. 123.

n Paper Flower Making will be held at 6 p.m. Dec. 12. Shelley Williams will teach how to make your own paper flowers. The cost for materials is $3. Registration is required. Spaces are limited. Call 946-0417, ext. 125, to register.

A free family movie: “Frozen” will be shown at 1 p.m. Dec. 14 in the library theater.

n Holiday Origami for Kids will be held at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 14. Children ages 8 to 12 are invited to learn how to make Holiday Origami. This is a free program, but registration is required by calling 946-0417, ext. 123.

n Homeschool Hub will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 16. This month’s theme: “Cryptology: Secret Code Making and Breaking.” There will also be a seasonal craft, toys for littles and physical education Fun. This is a free program. Register by calling 946-0417, ext. 123. All ages are welcome.

n Join Carol Scarbro at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 16 at the library for “Essential Oils: Make & Take Rollerball.” Call 946-0417, ext. 125, to register.

n Children ages 8 and younger are invited to design their own cardboard car to “drive-in” to the library theater at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 21. Participants will watch “Cars 3.” Automo-tive supplies will be supplied. Registration is required, call 946-0417, ext. 123, to register.

n Story Times: Families of young children are invited to check out the library’s free educational story time programs for caregiver and child to enjoy together. Developmentally appropriate and enjoyable programs for children ages 1 to 6 are offered weekly. Registra-tion is required by calling 946-0417, ext. 123.
