Rita McCloskey of Gallitzin will celebrate her 90th birthday with a family luncheon.
She was born Oct. 22, 1929, in Baltimore, the daughter of the late Marie and Nocolas Dawson. She married John R. McCloskey Sr., who died June 6, 1966.
She has eight children: John R. Jr., Edward and Joseph, all deceased; Michael of Duncansville, Mary Balzano of Gallitzin, William of Altoona, Amy Parnell of Cresson and Ralph of Gallitzin. She also has 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. McCloskey worked at JayLynn Factory, Gallitzin. She retired in the spring of 2004 as a foster grandparent with the Penn Cambria School District after volunteering for 12 years.
She is a mamber of St. Demetrius Catholic Church, Gallitzin, and a lifetime member of the auxiliary at Sankertown Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7377.
She enjoys crocheting and knitting hats for cancer patients and crocheting afghans for her grandchildren. She also likes playing, bingo, cards and Tetris.
