Buddy Walk set for Saturday
STATE COLLEGE — October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month and the Centre Region Down Syndrome Society will celebrate the lives of people who have Down syndrome with its 11th annual Buddy Walk from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Mount Nittany Middle School.
The public is invited to join in this non-competitive walk, which is followed by a fun festival featuring a bounce house, the Tumblebus and crafts and games.

HAJHS to host breakfast for veterans
HOLLIDAYSBURG — The Hollidaysburg Area Junior High School faculty, staff and students invite area veterans to a Veterans Day Breakfast at
8:30 a.m. Nov. 7 at the school.
This Celebration of Veterans will honor the veterans of all branches of the Armed Forces.
Participants can enjoy breakfast, musical selections and the company of other veterans as the school honors their service to the nation.
The menu includes scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, hashbrowns, sausage, muffins, fruit, juice and coffee.

Civil War descendants to meet
BELLWOOD — The Descendants of Civil War Veterans will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Bellwood-Antis Public Library.
James Gindlesperger will speak about famous people buried in the Arlington National Cemetery.
The public is invited to attend the meeting.
‘Back to Oz’ to be held Nov. 2
Sweet Adelines International will present the Altoona Chorus in “Back to Oz,” a musical comedy, at 7 p.m. Nov. 2 at Altoona Area Junior High School, 1400 Seventh Ave., Altoona.
Special guest will be the Horseshoe Chorus.

SAMA to host Family Fun Day
LORETTO — The Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art in Loretto will host a Childhood Classics Family Fun Day from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Nov. 9.

Olympic medalist to speak at luncheon
Michele Burghar-Duncan, two-time Olympic medalist, will be the special guest speaker at the “United We Can” luncheon at noon Nov. 7 at The Casino at Lakemont Park, Altoona.
Burghar-Duncan competed for the Jamaican National Track and Field team, claiming a silver medal in the 1,600 at the 2000 Sydney Games and a bronze at the 2004 Athens games. Her 1,600 relay team won the gold medal at the 2001 World Championships in Edmonton and the bronze medal in Paris two years later. Her team claimed the silver medal at the 2003 Pan Am Games.
This fall, she enters her sixth season as women’s head coach of track and field at IUP, and her 12th season overall as a coach at the university.
Coach Burghar-Duncan will present on “Stepping Out of Your Comfort Zone” at the luncheon.

Craft show, bake sale set for Saturday
ALUM BANK — The Alum Bank Fire Company will host its annual craft show and bake sale from
9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the fire hall, 6738 King St. Clair Road. Admission is free.
Orders are being accepted for homemade soups: vegetable beef, beef noodle and ham and bean.
Donations of baked goods are welcome.

The Halloween parade will be held at 7 p.m., with lineup at 6 p.m.
All proceeds benefit the fire company.
