Descendants of Josef Ellstrom (1887-1967) and Mary Johnson Ellstrom (1889-1971) and Frank Kemp (1891-1970) and Sadie Johnson Kemp (1891-1948) celebrated a reunion May 31 through June 2 in Altoona. Mary and Sadie were daughters of August Johnson (1856-1910) and Maria Anderson Johnson (1857-1945) who immigrated to Altoona from Sweden. Josef Ellstrom also came to Altoona from Sweden. Children, grandchildren, siblings, cousins and spouses came together to renew their close ties and friendships. Attendees included Theodore Ellstrom (Ted), son of Josef and Mary Ellstrom, who resides in Rochester, N.Y. Ted is now 96 years old and lives near three of his five children. Also attending was Ruth Kemp Codichini, 97, who lives in Cochranville with her daughter. Joyce Kemp of Hollidaysburg also attended. She is the wife of the late William Kemp, son of Sadie and Frank Kemp. During the weekend, the group shared many memories, visited original homesteads and several local sites including Meadows Ice Cream and Boyer Candies. At the reunion dinner, Ted addressed the group briefly and stressed how important relationships and love is to our family and how wonderful it has been to spend time together.
