St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Newry, has held annual May crowning ceremonies at its Our Lady of Lourdes grotto for many years. This is the 100th anniversary of the grotto. The top photo is from the 1930s. Shown are (from left): smaller children in front — Regina Mae McCoy, Mary Elizabeth Glass and Posey Burket; back — Marie Leighty Dodson, Clara Miller Berryman (May queen) and Jean Miller Reilly. The photo is from the collection of Mary Margaret (Miller) Hazenstab and was submitted by her daughter, Elizabeth George of Duncansville. Mrs. George is chairwoman of the historical booth at St. Patrick’s Church Festival, which is being held this weekend on the church and school grounds. Above left is a photo of the grotto from 1932 and above right is a photo of the grotto from 1937. The photos at right are current photos of the grotto grounds.
