Center to hold ‘Art in the Dark’ Sept. 7

JOHNSTOWN — The Community Arts Center of Cambria County will hold its inaugural “Art in the Dark, a Dining in the Dark Experience” Sept. 7 at Sunnehanna Country Club, 1000 Sunnehanna Drive in the Westmont section of Johnstown.

Cocktail hour begins at 5 p.m., with the program and dinner following at 6 p.m.

Art in the Dark is a fundraiser that partners the artistic components of blacklight and glow art by shining a light on the blind and visually impaired community.

There will be interactive sensory displays during the cash bar, three-course meal and include a blindfolded segment during dinner. The featured entertainment will be a life Blacklight Landscape painting demonstration by Al Just, while Rodney Eatman accompanies his painting process on piano.

Tickets are available at the Community Arts Center: $49 for members, $54 for nonmembers and $500 for table sponsorship.

Anyone interested in attending can purchase tickets online at www.caccc.org or register by phone at 255-6515. The deadline for registration and payment is Sept. 4. Proceeds will benefit the Community Arts Center of Cambria County.

Master gardeners seek new applicants

MARTINSBURG — The Penn State Extension in Blair County is accepting applications for the 2019-20 class of master gardeners.

A meet and greet is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at the extension office at 266 Aviation Way.

The volunteer training course is designed to provide the applicant, a home gardener, with the skills and knowledge necessary to volunteer and share researched gardening practices to county residents.

Weekly training classes will start Oct. 3 and continue for approximately 40 weeks.

All applications must be received by Sept. 5.

Association for Blind sets yard sale

The Blair/Clearfield Association for the Blind will hold an indoor yard sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 13 and 14 at its offices at 300 Fifth Ave., Altoona. The sale will be held regardless of the weather.

All proceeds will benefit the Blair/Clearfield Association for the Blind’s Client Fund.

Clothes will be $4 per bag (includes lots of junior sizes). There also will be shoes, books, toys, household items and more.
