Altoona library sets July activities

n Would you like to learn to use Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Snapchat? The library will hold classes on a different app at noon each Thursday. Call 946-0417, ext. 125, to register. Facebook, Thursday; Twitter, July 18; Instagram, July 25.

n Learn the fundamentals of Computers and Microsoft Windows during a three-week series starting Thursday and running through July 25. Topics include using the mouse and keyboard, storage, files, navigating windows and more. There will be a $10 registration fee due at sign-up. Call 946-0417 ext 125 to register.

n During the library’s Office classes, the library will provide a primer to get started on Office and learning how to use Word (Thursday), Excel (July 18) and PowerPoint (July 25). Classes start at 10 a.m. Participants may choose to attend one or all. There is a $5 registration fee for each class. Call 946-0417, ext. 125, to register.

n The movie “Hidden Figures” will be shown at 11 a.m. Wednesday on the library big screen. The documentary “Magnificent Desolation: Walking on the Moon” will be shown at 11 a.m. July 24. These movies are free and open to the public.

n “Make and Take Terrarium” will be held at 6 p.m. July 11 in the library’s board room. Space will be limited. This event is for adults and teens. Cost is $7. Registration in advance is required by calling 946-0417, ext. 125.

n Summer Quest is out of this world. Have a blast at the library with “A Universe of Stories Summer Quest.” Join us as we train for a mission to Mars with our Mission Masters (ages 6-9) and our Cosmic Captains (ages 10-14). n All summer long, the library will be showing family movies at 1:30 p.m. every Wednesday in the library theater. The selections for July are:

Wednesday — “Into the Woods.”

July 17 — “The Emoji Movie.”

July 24 — “Adventures in Babysitting” (2016).

July 31 — “The Grinch.”

n Make Your Own Tote at the library’s recycling event. Choose from July 15 or July 29 at 6 p.m. Space will be limited. Take an old

n Learn how to make your own wire-wrapped jewelry at 6 p.m. July 18t at the library. The cost for materials is $10. Registration is required. This is an adult-only class. Call 946-0417, ext. 125, to register.

n Three local poets, Brian C. Miller, Rebecca Holland and Erin Kelly, will be signing/selling their latest poetry chapbooks from 1 to 4 p.m. July 20 in the library’s board room. Miller’s chapbook is called “The Cosmic Tour.” Holland’s chapbook is titled “Looking Through My Good Eye: A Memoir in Verse.” “How To Wait” is the title of Kelly’s chapbook.

n Fired Up Ceramics will hold a ceramics class at 6 p.m. July 22. Cost is $6 for smaller items and $17 for larger ones. Children are welcome with adult supervision. Register by calling 946-0417, ext. 125.

n Learn how to make beautiful designs while lowering your stress at Zentangle at 6 p.m. July 25. This is an adult/teen class. Cost is $10 for materials. Registration in advance is required. Call 946-0417, ext. 125, to register.

n Story Times: Families of young children are invited to check out the library’s free educational story time programs for caregiver and child to enjoy together.
