Library to hold program for youth

The Taking Control Scholarship Board will host “Youth, Government & Employment” at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Altoona Area Public Library 1600 Fifth Ave.

Youth ages 11 to 18 are invited to to hear presentations by guest speakers. Children ages 10 and younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Speakers include

n State Rep. Lou Schmitt, 79th Legislative District

n Altoona Mayor Matthew Pacifico

n Kevin Fleck, youth program manager, PA CareerLink

Government topics will include structure and government, legislative, judicial and executive; respective roles; Federalism; voting; how you can get involved; Visit the State Capital: Be a Page for the Day; and Shadow a Legislator for the Day (sign-up sheets available).

Employment topics will include first-time jobs, training, high priority occupations in the community and how to acquire sustainable employment.

There will be opportunities to sign up for the Taking Control Scholarship Program at the event. Light refreshments will be available.
