Altoona library plans June activities

The Altoona Area Public Library has announced its June activities.

n Would you like to learn to use Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Snapchat? The library will hold classes on a different app at 10 a.m. each Thursday. Call 946-0417 ext 125 to register. Twitter, June 13; Instagram, June 20, Snapchat, June 27.

n Would you like to improve your hireability? Take the library’s Office classes. The library will provide a primer to get started on Office and learning how to use Word, Excel and PowerPoint at 2 p.m. Thursdays. Participants may choose to attend one or all. n Children ages 9 to 14 can participate in an in-depth sewing class. This class lasts four consecutive weeks (11:30 a.m. June 17 and 24 and July 1 and 8) and will include a cumulative project. Plan to attend all four classes. Registration is required and spaces are limited. Call 946-0417, ext. 123, to register.

n The library will kick off Summer Quest with Wild World of Animals! There are two show times to choose from Friday — 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. — at the Altoona Area High School auditorium. This show entails many different animals ranging from reptiles and birds to mammals. This is a free, all ages event for the entire family.

n Summer Quest will be out of this world. Have a blast at the library with “A Universe of Stories Summer Quest.” Join us as we train for a mission to Mars with Mission Masters (ages 6 to 9) and Cosmic Captains (ages 10 to 14). n All summer long, the library will be showing family movies at 1 p.m. every Wednesday in the library theater. The selections for June are June 19, “Space Buddies” and June 26, “Hotel Transylvania 3.”

n Learn how to make your own resin jewelry at 6 p.m. June 20 at the library. The cost for materials is $10. Registration is required. This is an adult-only class. Call 946-0417, ext. 125, to register.

n A Star Wars Super Saturday at 10:30 a.m. June 22. Meet some of your favorite Star Wars characters and participate in Star Wars-themed activities. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is required by calling 946-0417, ext. 123.

n For June, Fired up Ceramics Co. features a beach-themed ceramics class at 6 p.m. June 24 at the library. Cost is $6 for smaller items and $17 for larger ones. Children are welcome with adult supervision. Register by calling 946-0417, ext. 125.

n The library will show the movie “October Sky” at 11 a.m. June 26 on the library big screen. This is a free event.

n Families of young children are invited to check out the library’s free educational story time programs for caregiver and child to enjoy together. Developmentally appropriate and enjoyable programs for children ages 1 to 6 are offered weekly. Registration is required by calling 946-0417, ext. 123.
