Suits, Sneakers Week benefits cancer society

WILLIAMSBURG — Coach Brock Anders and staff wore suits with sneakers at the varsity boys basketball home games during Suits and Sneakers Week, which benefited the American Cancer Society.

Coaches vs. Cancer Suits And Sneakers Week is a nationwide event when basketball coaches across the country unite for a common cause — saving lives from cancer. This year, the week ran from Jan. 21 to 27.

Coaches and their staff across the nation wear sneakers with their suits during games to raise awareness and help save lives by raising funds and encouraging people to educate themselves about cancer prevention, screening and early detection.

Coach Anders even got the away teams involved, and the booster club organized a number of activities to raise money for the American Cancer Society. There was a duck toss, In Honor/In Memory Of cards, and Coaches vs. Cancer items for sale at all games.

More than $200 was raised for the American Cancer Society.

“We are so grateful and honored to have the support of Coach Anders and the Williamsburg Basketball team,” said Jenn Kush, community development manager for the American Cancer Society.

“It is only through the efforts of community members like them that we are able to continue funding cancer research and our patient programs,”
