Ken Kuhn, art instructor at Penn State Altoona, announced the first art auction at the Smith building on campus with the student artists setting their own prices for their works. Adjunct student Mrs. Selma Brande was to act as an auctioneer.

Sheetz Corp. said it would join the Pennsylvania Food Merchants Asso­cia­tion and others in fighting a Pennsylvania Department of Heath ruling prohibiting the sale of tobacco products to minors under 21 over the question of what age, 18 or 21, constituted a minor.

The Penn State Altoona Strategic Plan for 2008-14 called for an additional 500 students, from 4,000 to 4,500, causing local residents to worry about additional student housing, which Sherri Routch of Penn State said would be “slow and strategic.”
