Wing Night, basket raffle Saturday

The Blue Knob Volunteer Fire Company will host a Wing Night & Basket Raffle at 5 p.m. Saturday at the firehall.

The cost is $11 for a meal which includes a dozen wings, fries and a bottle of water or $9 for a dozen wings.

HAYFA information night Wednesday

HOLLIDAYSBURG — The Hollidaysburg Area Youth Football Association will hold a parent’s informational meeting for the 2019 football season at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Hollidaysburg Area Junior High School auditorium.

Registration is open to all area children and can be completed at www.HAYFA.us or at the parent meeting.

Football is open to students entering grades four, five and six (fourth-grade students must weigh at least 70 pounds to register).

Cheerleading is open to students entering grades three through six.

New participants must take a copy of the child’s birth certificate.

Discovery Garden to host plant sale

HOLLIDAYSBURG — The Discovery Garden at Legion Park in Hollidaysburg will hold its annual plant sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 18 — rain or shine — to benefit the Horticulture Therapy Program through Skills.

Many local businesses and greenhouses donate plants, vegetables, flowers and herbs for the sale.

Also available are homegrown items and handmade crafts made by the participants of the Horticulture Therapy Program.

Cinco De Mayo Bingo to aid Relay

MARTINSBURG — The Relay For Life of the Cove will host a Cinco De Mayo-themed Multi-Vendor Bingo at 2:30 p.m. May 5 at Morrisons Cove Memorial Park Banquet Hall. The doors will open at 1:30 p.m.

Admission includes 12 regular games of bingo. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased through any Relay For Life team or at Altoona First Savings Bank, Martinsburg; Frederick’s Meat Market, Roaring Spring; and Long’s Outpost, Martinsburg.

Tickets will be available at the door. There will also be special games, basket raffles, pinatas, food for purchase and more.

Luminary Bags in honor/memory of loved ones or recognition of a caregiver will be available for a donation. Bags can be decorated by the donor and will be displayed at the Relay For Life of the Cove on June 22 at the Spring Cove Athletic Field.

All proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society.

Strawberry basket workshop May 11

NEW ENTERPRISE — Health By Choice Education and Research will hold a Strawberry Basket Work-shop from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 11 at 1721 Lafayette Road, New Enterprise.

It will be presented by A. Maury Streiff, founder of Soil Regeneration Group; Faye Corbett of SRG and Keith Nicholson, horticulturalist at SRG.

This is a hands-on workshop where participants will plant their own basket. HBCER will provide the materials for this workshop.

Preregistration is required by calling 766-2182.

There is a $55 workshop fee. Extra baskets can be ordered for $20 each. Lunch will be provided.

Profits will be donated to the HBCER building fund.
