HOLLIDAYSBURG — The 12th annual Lehman Engineers Horse Trail Ride & Trail Walk to benefit Dreams Go On was held Sept. 30 at Canoe Creek State Park.

The event generated $28,384.95 for Dreams Go On, a nonprofit therapeutic horseback riding organization for adults and children who are physically challenged, receive mental health, behavioral health or family therapy services.

Riders and walkers had the opportunity to meet Carson Frank, the 2018 Dreams Go On Ambassador. Carson is a 14-year-old who enjoys his horseback riding sessions and is working on independent horseback riding.

Celebrity Emcee Joe Murgo, chief meteorologist at WTAJ-TV, along with Marty Lehman, Lehman Engineers director of client services; Debbie Kelly, program manager for Dreams Go On, and the family of Carson Frank hosted the early morning activities by welcoming all participants and holding a moment in silence for Carol Daniels Yeager, an avid supporter of Dreams Go On.

Led by Dreams Go On therapeutic riding instructor Karen Kurtz, the riders enjoyed a 2.5-hour trail bridle loop trail. Trail walkers enjoyed the Lake View Loop and Limestone Trail at Canoe Creek State Park.

All participants received a free event T-shirt. Event participants also were treated to a barbecue chicken lunch provided by Imler’s Poultry. Other in-kind food donations and talent to support the event were donated by the following sponsors: Hoss’s Steak and Sea House, Blair County Beverage, Roaring Spring Water and Ruth Keller’s homemade cookies.

The event also featured a silent auction with items donated by volunteers, sponsors and area businesses. Children participated in many arts and crafts and face painting. The children’s activity area, event set up, registration, trail guidance and many other aspects of the event was staffed by the event planning committee, Dreams Go On volunteers and student volunteers from Saint Francis University sorority Phi Lambda Psi and Penn State Altoona Sheetz Fellows.

Registered trail riders and walkers were asked to hold fundraisers and collect donations for the event. The top individual fundraising award went to Frank Musselman, a multi-year champion, with an $890 donation. Second and third place were awarded to Pam Wilt and Amy Robinson with $300 and $257 donated.

The top team fundraising award was given to Team Saint Francis University Phi Lambda Psi ladies for their $2,543.77 donation. The SFU sorority held a spaghetti dinner fundraiser to raise the team donation. The top fundraisers were awarded prize packs from Hoss’s Steak and Sea House, Best Way Pizza, and DelGrosso’s Amusement Park and Laguna Waterworks.
