Central PA Pets Expo has something for all

Next Sunday, Oct. 28, is an especially exciting time for pet lovers in Central PA!

In addition to this column, I tackle one of my other favorite gigs as organizer of the Central PA Pet Expo and I invite everyone to come out and say hello!

The annual Central PA Pets Expo will be held from noon to 4 p.m. at the Blair County Convention Center, lower level.

Celebrating its ninth year, the event is sure to entertain as well as educate attendees on being the best possible pet parents they can be.

In addition to pet-related vendors, including many area veterinarians who will be on hand to speak with you, there are numerous entertainment and special guests, including Grammy-nominated songwriter Ray Owen, who will perform two special shows at 2 and 3 p.m.

Ray will be headlining the day’s lineup as part of Metzger Animal Hospital’s “Kidz-trafaganza Zone” featuring That Guy With The Birds, Kenny Sprouse from Pittsburgh, who will be sharing his flock and knowledge during a show at 12:30 p.m. and throughout the day. Incredible face painting by Sarah Jubeck will be available at Metzger’s booth.

Also from Pittsburgh, comes Iceman Reptiles with a slithering educational display of reptiles that can be touched and held.

The Altoona Area Kennel Association keeps the day moving with demonstrations and a parade of breeds showcasing approximately 20 different breeds of dogs helping potential pet owners learn about a specific breed before adopting.

Logan Township’s Police K9, Freddy, and handler Officer Vazquez will participate in a live working demonstration and Heaven Scent Search and Rescue’s newest bloodhounds, Ezra and Boaz, will be meeting and greeting attendees.

There will be volunteers from a dozen local and regional rescue groups and associations on hand with pets for adoption.

CoCo The Couture cat is back from Virginia to showcase her newest line of apparel and worldly travels.

And author/attorney Patti Lawson will be featuring her latest books along with pet legal advice.

A special appearance by Lego the Kissing Alpaca from Eureka Farms will also grace the show floor!

Admission is $7 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under. Parking is free.

Because we will have such an array of animals, we ask that you leave your own pets at home.

If you have a bit of time next Sunday afternoon, pack up the family and head to the Blair County Convention Center and join us at the Central PA Pet Expo. If you love pets, there is guaranteed to be something for everyone. Hope to see you there!
