Altoona library announces April activities

The Altoona Area Public Library, 1600 Fifth Ave., has announced its activities for the remainder of the month.

n Children ages 6 to 12 are welcome to attend “Robot Hangout” from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Fridays in April. Regis-tration per class is required by calling 946-0417, ext. 123.

n Bookworms Against Bullies: A new program for anyone needing a safe outlet to talk openly about their own experiences with bullying. Share stories and participate in activities to help one another build confidence and learn to stand up for oneself. For each session attended, participants’ names will be entered to win a prize at the end of the month. Sessions are held from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. every Wednesday in April; children ages 8 and older are welcome to attend. Call 946-0417, ext. 123, for information.

n Sensory Storytime: Families of children ages 12 and younger are invited to check out the library’s free educational storytime program for kids with sensory processing needs at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. Each child who at-tends will receive a book from the Central Pennsylvania Autism So-ciety. Registration is required. Call 946-0417, ext. 123, to register.

n Spring into the season with Fired Up Ceramics at 6 p.m. Thursday at the library. Projects include butterflies, bunnies and necklaces. Cost is $6 per item. Call 946-0417, ext. 125, to register.

n Families with children ages 6 and younger are invited to the library’s “One Book, Every Young Child” program from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday. The featured book, “Our Cousin Momo” will be read by WPSU’s Carolyn Donaldson, and other activities will be provided. Each family will receive its own copy of the book to take home, while supplies last. Registra-tion is required by calling 946-0417, ext. 123. Presented by Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Altoona Area Public Library and the Family Resource Center at United Way.

n Seeking a career change, or need education and training to start your career? Considering a bachelor’s degree? Stop by the Penn Highlands Community College table at the library to learn about career and technical programs to help you prepare for a career or transfer to a four-year college/university for a bachelor’s degree. They can answer financial aid questions, too, and discuss student support services and flexible schedules. The information table will be set up from 3:30 to 5 p.m. May 14, June 11, July 9, Aug. 13, Sept. 10, Oct. 8, Nov. 19 and Dec. 10.

n Children ages 12 and younger, along with caregivers, are invited to a Super Saturday program, “Spring Into Science,” at 11 a.m. Saturday. Call 946-0417, ext. 123, to register.

n Families are welcome to enjoy a free movie on the library’s big screen. “My Little Pony” (Rated PG) will be shown at 1 p.m. Saturday in the library theater.

n Children ages 6 to 12 are invited to join a Lego Club at the library. All they need is imagination. It is held at 6:30 p.m. on rotating Mondays or 5:30 p.m. Thursdays. Registration is required by calling 946-0417, ext. 123.

n “Essential Oils Make & Take for Mood” will be held at 5:30 p.m. April 23 in Room 2B. The cost is $15. Call 946-0417, ext. 125, to register.

n The Friends of the Altoona Area Public Library will hold its Spring Used Book Sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 20 and 21 and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. April 23 on the ground floor of the library. There are no Sunday hours. Monday is $5-a-bag day.

n The Spring Fling Vendors & Crafters Fair, to benefit the library, will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 28. Vendors include Paparazzi, Amy’s Art, Scentsy, Sam’s Club, Pink Zebra, Norwex, Doterra, Tastefully Simple and more. This event will have a Chinese auction with lots of prizes. n Story Times: Families of young children are invited to check out the Altoona Area Public Library’s free educational story time programs for caregiver and child to enjoy together. Developmentally appropriate and enjoyable programs for children ages 1 to 5 are offered weekly. Registration is required by calling 946-0417, ext. 123.
