Northern Cambria wins envirothon

ST. MICHAEL — Northern Cambria High School Team I took first-place honors at the Cambria County Envirothon at the Disasters Edge in St. Michael.

Students competed in five environment-based field stations: soils and land use, aquatic ecology, forestry, wildlife and environmental issues.

Every year, a different environmental issue is the focus. This year, it was soil and agriculture conservation.

Team 1 of Northern Cambria High School captured top honors. Members of the team are Sydney Roach, Sarah Tibbott, Emily Weaver, Michael Delosh, Mallory Bernard and coach Mary Beth Kerr.

Second place was awarded to Forest Hills High School Team III, consisting of Rebecca Williamson, Natalya Teno, William Ayers, Autumn Holds-worth, Donovan Faith and coach Joel Kosmac.

Third place went to Penn Cambria High School Team I, consisting of Sierra Beisweinger, Alyssa Beisweinger, Emmy Harvey, Neil Suttan, Dallas Hite and coach Chris Oravec.

Fourth place went to Portage Area High School Team I, consisting of Abby Chobany, Summer Viscusi, Hunger Kalinoski, Olivia Kissell, Madelyn Single and coach Mary Kenny.

Fifth place was awarded to Bishop McCort Catholic High School Team I, consisting of Kyleigh Way, Mary Majercsik, Kristin Diehl, Devin Nau, Hunter Gleason and coach Kourt-ney Penatzer.
