EBENSBURG — Marisa Matlin and Windber and Amanda Venesky of Ebensburg were among 133 4-H members from across the state who met in Harrisburg recently for the annual Pennsylvania 4-H Capital Days program, a citizenship-awareness and civic-engagement educational program .

Participants learned about governmental issues and the political process; how to advocate and speak out about issues that impact them, their families and their communities; and gain leadership and citizenship skills.

Sen. Scott Hutchinson gave the delegates a tour of the Capitol and the House and Senate floors and held a question-and-answer session.

On the last day, the delegates heard Secretary of Agriculture Russell Redding speak about his sons’ 4-H experience and growth in leadership and professionalism.

Redding also fielded questions from the delegates on current agriculture topics and government current events.

The event wrapped up with a legislative brunch during which delegates talked with their legislators one-on-one about 4-H and their 4-H experiences.
