Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site, Gallitzin, 886-6150

Living History Day, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. This family-friendly event includes children’s activities and games all day, special guided tours of the Lemon House, stone-cutting and other demonstrations and more.

“Journey Around Lake Conemaugh” Van Tour, daily through Sept. 30, 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Reservations are encouraged, but not required. There is no fee for the van tours.

Family DiscoverE: Go Fly a Kite!, 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Headache Hill. Find out how humans have been capturing wind power over time and make a simple wind-catching craft.

Family Fishing Event, 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, meet at the pavilion at Pickerel Pond. Learn what it means to be a smart angler and practice some basic fishing skills. Equipment and bait will be provided, no license required. Adults must be with a child, and children must be with an adult. Free, but preregistration is required.

Birds & Blossoms Walk, 9:30 a.m. Saturday, meet at Muskrat Beach No. 1 parking lot. Wear comfortable shoes and take drinking water and binoculars.

Storybook Walk, 10:30 a.m. Sunday, meet at the amphitheater. Children will join the park naturalist on a gentle walk, reading a story and then make a nature craft.

Dad’s Day Hike, 1:30 p.m. Sunday, meet at the large wooden trailhead sign at Muskrat Beach No. 3. This route is 1.5 miles long and travels through a variety of forest habitats along Turkey Ridge Trail. Wear sturdy, comfortable shoes that can get muddy and take drinking water.

“Fibonacci, Nature’s Golden Rule,” 7 p.m. Sun-day, Historic & Interpretive Center. Learn about the angles, triangles, rectangles and spirals found everywhere in the natural world.
