Roaring Spring library sets May activities

ROARING SPRING — The Roaring Spring Community Library, 320 E. Main St., has announced its activities for May. Library hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Overdrive e-books are available at www.roaringspringlibrary.org. On the right hand side, under Important Links, click on Overdrive.

n Spring Cove School District Night at the Altoona Curve will be held on May 12 starting at 5 p.m. Join the library on the concourse for giveaways and activities. Take your old library card to recycle and sign up for the Blair County Library Card.

n “Herb Gardening” will be held at 6 p.m. May 22. Penn State Master Gardener Cathy Schwartz will show participants how to create their own herb garden.

n “Essential Oils: Natural Summer Insect Repellent” will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday. Candy Feathers will discuss which oils and blends can be used to deter summer insects. There is no fee to attend this session. A fee will be charged for roller bottles.

n “Skin Care with Cora” will be held at 6 p.m. May 23. Cora Baker, Sephora certified skin care expert, will teach simple ways to care for and pamper your skin and skin care facts. RSVP by calling 224-2294. There is a $10 fee for the class.

n “Get Chalky at the Library” will be held at 6 p.m. Monday. Brenda Frederick will help participants create a terra cotta or metal spring planter or table centerpiece with Chalky paints. Planters will be provided, or take one from home. Project fee is $5 for materials. Call the library at 224-2994 to reserve a seat.

n “Chalky for a Cause” will be held at 6 p.m. May 19 at the library. Join Brenda Frederick for an evening of painting and friendship while supporting the library. Choose from four projects to complete during “Chalky for a Cause” night, and 20 percent of your with order will be donated to the library. RSVP and payment needed by May 8 by contacting Frederick at Chalkylymechic@gmail.com.

n Lego my Library will meet at 4 p.m. Tuesdays. Imagine, build and play with your friends. Children ages 6 to 12 will enjoy creating and designing with Lego bricks. Space is limited; call the library to register at 224-2994.

n The Autism and Mental Health Diagnosis Family Support Group will meet at 6 p.m. Monday. Individuals and family members will discuss questions and concerns and benefit from a supportive network of individuals. RSVP by calling Paula Miller at 502-4093

n “1, 2, 3 Play With Me” with Miss Pauline will have stories, song and play time at 10:30 a.m. each Tuesday in May. Signup is optional; all children are welcome to come with their adult.

n Block Play will be held from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Mondays. Block Play is an hour of playing with wooden blocks and play animals, vehicles and people. Signup is optional; all children are welcome to come with their adult.

n Knitting and Crochet Group will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesdays. Take your current project. Call the Library for more information.

n The Friends of the Library will hold its Spring Fling and Vendor Fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Church to benefit the Friends. Enjoy a variety of vendors, basket raffles and light faire. Anyone interested in being a vendor should email Jane Barlick, Friends president, at jrbarlick@gmail.com.

n The Book Cellar has a great selection of items. New books are added weekly. Fill a bag for $3 or two for $5. Donations are accepted during library hours.
