Cancer survivors picnic offers fun, relaxation

UPMC Altoona, UPMC Cancer Center and UPMC Division of Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery are hosting a free Cancer Survivors Appreciation Picnic Sept. 17 at DelGrosso’s Amusement Park, Tipton.

The picnic is for all those who have been touched by cancer.

A fun and relaxing afternoon is planned under Pavilion 2, with face painting for kids of all ages and bingo.

Stop at the registration area (near Pavilion 2) to pick up your meal tickets, schedule of activities, discount coupons for ride passes and to sign up for door prizes.

Registration opens at 10 a.m. The water park will be closed.

The foundation will provide all guests with a DelGrosso’s barbecue chicken combo meal. The adult portion includes chicken and a quarter-pound Angus burger.

The child portion includes a chicken leg and a hot dog.

Both meals include baked beans, potato salad, pickle spear, vanilla ice cream cup and soft drink.

Meals will be served from noon to 2 p.m.

To register, visit and click on “Classes & Events,” then choose “Cancer Survivor Event DelGrosso’s Park” or call Michelle Dodson at the UPMC Altoona Foundation at 889-6740.

“UPMC Cancer Center is proud to be a part of this event,” said Dr. Jack Schocker, medical director, UPMC Cancer Center at UPMC Altoona. “We encourage patients and their families to join us at the park for a very special afternoon.”
