Abundant Life Church plans yard sale

Abundant Life Church, 231 Howard Ave., Altoona, will hold a yard sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, June 6, and Saturday, June 7. Lunch and baked goods will also be available.

Free lunch served

St. Luke’s Episcopal Church’s community lunch will be held at noon Wednesday, June 11, in the fellowship hall at St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1407 Eighth Ave., right down the street from St Luke’s. The meal is free; donations accepted. The menu this month will be picnic food: hoagies, potato salad, macaroni salad, baked beans, dessert and appetizers. This will be the church’s last community lunch until September.

Bible school scheduled

The Loysburg community in northern Bedford County/Southern Morrisons Cove will be holding morning Vacation Bible School June 9-13 for all children in the area. St. John’s Reformed church will be hosting the VBS on its campus at 1698 Woodbury Pike, Loysburg. Parents are asked to register their children in advance on the church website: https://www.sjrcl.org/vbs.

Children from preschool through 5th grade are invited, and older children are invited to come as teacher’s helpers and for the opening and closing programs each day.

Clothing, food collection set

Donations of clothing and non-perishable foods will be accepted from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 7, at Hollidaysburg Church of the Brethren, 1028 Penn St. (Route 36). The church parking lot will serve as a collection site for the American Rescue Workers.

Yard sale benefits mission trip

The Well Ministry Center, 605 Burns Ave., Altoona, will host a yard sale to benefit the Well’s youth mission trip to North Carolina where they will be helping disaster victims.

The yard sale will be held from 1 to 7 p.m. Saturday, June 7. Goodies and drinks will also be available for sale.

Donations of items for the yard sale can be dropped off from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 5, or from 1 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 6.

Bible study offered

Duncansville Lutheran Church, 1200 Fourth Ave., will hold a Bible study at 6 p.m. Wednesdays in June. June 11 features John 16: 12-15 A Finite Person’s Story; June18, Luke 8: 26-39 A Confused Man’s Story; and June 25, Luke 9:51-62 An Apostle’s Story.

Lunch offered

Community lunch will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 7, at Fourth Street Church of God, 2010 Fourth St., Altoona. The free meal includes chicken fingers, french fries, applesauce and dessert.

Saturate Altoona returns

Saturate Altoona will again be held in Heritage Plaza in downtown Altoona every Sunday night in June. Activities begin at 5:30 p.m. with Blessing Booths providing snacks and giveaways for children and adults. At 6:30 p.m., a service begins with music, prayer and ministry provided by many city churches.

Everyone is invited to see the church of Altoona in action. Those attending are urged to bring lawn chairs for seating.

Loggia Night set for June 8

Catholic men discerning their true vocation in life are invited to an evening of faith, fraternity and food in Loretto.

Loggia Night will be held on June 8, beginning with the outdoor Mass at 7 p.m. at the Our Lady of the Alleghenies Shrine. Father Brian Norris, Pastor of St. Therese of the Child Jesus Parish in Altoona, will be the celebrant and homilist.

Norris will speak about the path to his vocation and the joy of the priesthood.

After Mass, men 18 and older who are open to the Lord’s call or may be discerning a priestly vocation are invited to the loggia (Italian for porch) of the Basilica of St. Michael the Archangel rectory, next to the Shrine.

Priests including the Very Rev. Alan Thomas, VG, Pastor of St. Mary and St. Michael parishes in Hollidaysburg and Vicar General for the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown; the Very Rev. John Byrnes, JCL, JV, rector of the Basilica and Judicial Vicar for the diocese; Father Peter Crowe, Pastor of St. Andrew Parish in Johnstown and Diocesan Director of Vocations; and Norris will be on hand to engage the men in conversation, answer their questions and enjoy good food.

All are welcome at the Mass.

Men 18 and older who wish to attend the gathering on the porch after Mass are asked to register at ajvocations.org.

Concert offered

Robert May will be in concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 8, at First United Methodist Church,

801 Allegheny St., Hollidaysburg. He will be joined by his wife, Martha, on piano. The concert is free; donations accepted.

The Mays will also present a concert at 2 p.m. Monday, June 9, at Homewood at Martinsburg, in the Givler Cultural Center.

Based in Nashville, Tenn., May is a singer, composer and voice teacher. He completed studies at the Juilliard School and performed in New York City for 10 years before making Nashville his home. His wife, Martha, is a Juilliard-trained pianist. The two have been collaborating on music for 17 years. Martha is the granddaughter of the late A. Donald Mingle of Martinsburg and Barbara Mingle, formerly of Roaring Spring. She is the niece of Douglas and Jo Ellen Mingle of Roaring Spring.

Ox roast meals for sale

Hollidaysburg Church of the Brethren, 1028 Penn St., Hollidaysburg, is hosting an ox roast drive-thru meal from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, June 12. The meal is $10 and includes an ox roast sandwich, homemade gob, chips and a drink. Proceeds will support the goal of improved accessibility to the church. Call 814-695-0072 for more information.

Food pantry distribution set

The food pantry at Twenty-eighth Street Church of the Brethren, 28th Street and Union Avenue, is available for those in need. Distribution will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, June 13 and Friday, June 20, by appointment only. Call Deb at 814-207-8293.

The free community lunch will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday June 14, at Twenty-eighth Street Church of the Brethren, 28th Street and Union Avenue.

Clearfield church sets VBS

The Presbyterian Church of Clearfield will hold Vacation Bible School from 5 to 7:30 pm.

June 16-20, at 119 N. Second St., Clearfield.

This year’s theme is “True North” inspired by the wonders of the Alaskan wilderness — from glistening glaciers to racing rivers — children will trek through a wonderful adventure. True North VBS points kids toward Jesus, who will never lead them astray.

VBS is open to all children entering first through eighth grade (children must be potty trained). Children in first through fifth grade will have VBS indoors at rotating stations while those in sixth through eighth grade will venture offsite for local adventures as part of Action Camp, that blends faith, education and community service.

A free evening meal will be provided daily. Parents should inform the team of any food allergies or medical concerns in advance.

Preschool Parents: A special Preschool VBS is planned for July 21-24, with more details to be announced soon on the church’s Facebook page.

Night of worship planned

Holy Spirit Ministry will host a night of worship at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, at St. Michael Church, Hollidaysburg. Bob Sutton will speak on “Water into Wine: How knowing God is supposed to change us.” There will be praise and worship music, with a prayer ministry to follow the talk.

Indoor yard, bake sale set

Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church will hold an indoor yard sale and bake sale from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, June 20, and Saturday, June 21m in the church hall, 2716 Broad Ave., Altoona. Use the alley entrance.

Greg Dunne to speak

Greg Dunne will speak about the Gift of Living in the Divine Will during a workshop June 11 at the Summit Country Club, 57 Country Club Road, Cresson. The event will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. with a dinner break from 6 to 7 p.m.

Summer lunch for children

West Decatur Charge of the United Methodist Church will hold a summer lunch program for area children from noon to 1 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday, June 3-Aug. 14. Lunch will be held at Calvary United Methodist Church, 167 Blue Ball Road, West Decatur.

Kids’ camp planned

Altoona Alliance Church Kids’ Camp will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. June 9-12. The camp is geared for children ages 4 to 6th grade.

The Theme this year is “Every story has a beginning” based on the Biblical Creation story in Genesis. Each night will have music, speakers, faith based lessons, games, crafts, snacks, and more.

Blueberry sale benefits HUB

The Mission Central HUB is holding its annual blueberry fundraiser, with proceeds used to pay rent, utilities and to purchase supplies for the outreach. The Mission is volunteer-driven and helps local nonprofit agencies.

Blueberries are $34 for 10 pounds. The berries are picked 24 hours before delivery. They will be available on Wednesday, July 2.

Orders are due by June 15 and can be dropped off or mailed, with checks payable to Mission Central HUB. Those ordering berries will be notified for pickup time. Mission Central HUB is at 1738 N. Branch Ave., Altoona, in front of the drivers license center, and is open from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday and Wednesday.

In addition, the Mission Central HUB would like to help the people of Kentucky with items collected. Anyone planning a trip to help disaster victims should contact the HUB at 814-201-2123.

Bible study offered

Duncansville Evangelical Lutheran, 1200 Fourth Ave., Duncansville, will hold Bible study at 6 p.m. Wednesdays in June. All are welcome.
