Clothing donations accepted

Donations of clothing and non-perishable foods will be accepted from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, at the Hollidaysburg Church of the Brethren, 1028 Penn St. (Route 36). The church parking lot will serve as a collection site for the American Rescue Workers. You can drop off donations and receive a tax receipt. This will be the last collection at this site for 2021.

Afternoon bingo to take place

The Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament will host an afternoon of bingo at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 26. Doors open at noon at Father Kelley Hall, 429 25th Ave., Altoona. Proceeds will go to assist children in Catholic schools, religious education and youth activities.

Author to present reading, book signing

“When the Parallel Converge” readings and a book signing by Author Laura Dabundo will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 335 Locust St., Johnstown. The event is free and open to the public. Those attending are asked to wear a mask and practice social distancing.

Dabundo will read selections from her book, followed by a Q&A session and book signing. Copies of “When the Parallel Converge” will be available for purchase for $10 each. Chicken BBQ dinner planned

St. Demetrius Church, 611 Church St., Gallitizin, will serve a chicken BBQ dinner beginning at 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 26. This year, the meal will be take out only, while supplies last. Cost is $12 per meal. The basket raffle, themed games and other small games of chance will be available.

ESL training sessions offered

The Altoona Alliance Church, 3220 Pleasant Valley Blvd., will host a training session on teaching English as a Second Language from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct 1 and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 2. Cost is $40 and includes three meals and the 184-page manual. Registration can be made at altoonaalliancechurch.com and clicking on the Events tab. Registration is due by Sept. 27. Revival scheduled

Logan’s Valley Baptist Church will host a revival at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 3. The church is at 335 Main St, Bellwood. Special music from surrounding churches will be featured. A nursery will be provided. All are welcome to attend.
