Clothing, food donations accepted
Donations of clothing and non-perishable foods will be accepted from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 1, at the Hollidaysburg Church of the Brethren, 1028 Penn St. (Route 36). The church parking lot will serve as a collection site for the American Rescue Workers. Tax receipts will be available.
Soup sale planned
Quarts of vegetable beef and ham & bean soup will be available for pickup from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 1, at the Upper Claar Church of the Brethren, Claysburg. Soup is $6 a quart and is available on a first come, first served basis. For more information, call 814-931-7130
Food pantry open Tuesdays and Thursdays
The St. Vincent DePaul Assumption Chapel Food Pantry, 1523 Adams Ave., has never closed during the pandemic. We are open on Tuesday and Thursday from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. All interested parties must call 814-943-7962 for an appointment. Picture identification and being masked are required.
Yard sale and chicken barbecue set
A yard sale and chicken barbecue will be held Saturday, May 1, at Hicks United Methodist Church, 1211 Third Ave., Duncansville.
The yard sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the pavilion. The chicken barbecue will be available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $10 and includes 1/2 chicken, baked beans, potato salad, roll and butter. For more information, call the church at 814-695-8529. All proceeds benefit the 2021 Mexico mission.
Turkey and waffle dinner available
Turkey and homemade waffle dinner will be available for takeout only from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 15, at the Pavia Activity Building in Pavia. Pre-orders are required and can be made by calling Donna at 814-276-3586 or Cleo at 814-276-3432 by May 9. The dinner will include turkey, two homemade waffles, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, fruit salad and cake. Cost of the meal is $10. All proceeds will go to the missions supported by the Mount Zion Church of Pavia.
Food pantry open by appointment
Twenty-eighth Street Church of the Brethren Food Ministry, 2800 Union Ave., Altoona, will be open by appointment only every Friday. Call by Wednesday for a Friday appointment. For more information or to make an appointment, call the pantry at 814-207-8293.
Golf outing scheduled for June
The 16th Annual Altoona Alliance Men’s Golf Classic will be held at the Iron Masters Country Club, Roaring Spring. Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m., and Tee times will start at 1 p.m.
Cost for the event is $75 per person or $275 for a foursome. Cost includes cart and green fee; classic golf towel, lunch, beverages and snacks on the course, and skill prizes. Tee sponsorships are available for $200, or $400 for tee sponsorship and a foursome.
Proceeds this year will provide scholarships for Kid’s Camps 2021, and for the Youth LIFE Conference in 2022.
