postponed — Quilt, craft show to be held in Newry A quilt and craft show will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 14-15, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of St. Patrick School in Newry. The show will be held in the school’s gym. Baked goods will also be available for purchase.

All COVID-19 guidelines will be followed and visitors should wear masks.

11th Novena of 2020 to be offered

The 11th Novena of the year 2020 to Our Lady of Mount Carmel and St. Therese offered by the Discalced Carmelite Nuns of Loretto will open Sunday, Nov. 22, and end Monday, Nov. 30.

Petitions should be sent to Mother Prioress, Discalced Carmelite Monastery, P.O. Box 57, Loretto, PA 15940.

For those who missed the online Solemn Novena to St. Therese, it is available on the nuns’ website at lorettocarmel.org.

Volunteer gift wrappers sought

The Altoona Salvation Army Worship Center is seeking volunteers the Christmas Season.

Beginning November through Christmas Eve, community members, businesses or groups can volunteer to be a gift wrapper for a free community gift wrapping station.

The free gift wrapping station will be held at the Logan Valley Mall. Wrapping times will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, with early times scheduled upon request.

Although gift wrapping is free, donations are collected, and volunteers are needed to help with wrapping. All supplies are provided.

All funds raised stay in the community to support local individuals and families with utility, rental and food assistance as well as other basic needs.

The Altoona Salvation Army Worship Center also distributes food to 11 different food banks throughout Blair County, provides an Emergency Disaster Services Response team and facilitates Sheetz Kidz referrals, Project Bundle Up, Adopt-A-Family and many other programs for individuals, children, families and seniors.

Food pantries open

— Sacred Heart Food Pantry, 2009 Sixth Ave., is open from 10 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. every Wednesday. Everyone is welcome. Currently, no ID or proof of income is needed. For more information, contact Carol at carolr616@verizon.net.

— The Twenty-eighth Street Church of the Brethren food pantry is open Fridays by appointment only. For information or an appointment, call Deb at 207-8293.
