Volunteer gift wrappers sought

The Altoona Salvation Army Worship Center is seeking volunteers the Christmas Season.

Beginning November through Christmas Eve, community members, businesses or groups can volunteer to be a gift wrapper for a free community gift wrapping station.

The free gift wrapping station will be held at the Logan Valley Mall. Wrapping times will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, with early times scheduled upon request.

Although gift wrapping is free, donations are collected, and volunteers are needed to help with wrapping. All supplies are provided.

All funds raised stay in the community to support local individuals and families with utility, rental and food assistance as well as other basic needs.

The Altoona Salvation Army Worship Center also distributes food to 11 different food banks throughout Blair County, provides an Emergency Disaster Services Response team, and facilitates Sheetz Kidz referrals, Project Bundle Up, Adopt-A-Family and many other programs for individuals, children, families and seniors.

Polish Feast dinner announced

The next drive-thru Polish Feast dinner at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, 136 Hilltop Road, Lilly, will be held from 10:30 a.m. to

2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1. The menu is halupki, haluski, pierogies, a roll and dessert.

Due to an overwhelming demand for the dinner, the church is doubling the number of prepared meals as as well as the number of service lines for this and all future Polish Feast fundraisers.

Remembrance service to be held

Fourth annual Remembrance Service honoring children who have died will be held at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2, in person at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 1230 Eighth Ave., and on Facebook (www.facebook.com/stlukesepiscopalaltoona).

Food pantries open

n Sacred Heart Food Pantry, 2009 Sixth Ave., is open from

10 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. every Wednesday. Everyone is welcome. Currently, no ID or proof of income is needed. For more information, contact Carol at carolr616@verizon.net.

n The Twenty-eighth Street Church of the Brethren food pantry is open Fridays by appointment only. For information or an appointment, call Deb at 207-8293.

Items can be emailed to religion@altoonamirror.com or call Holly at 946-7451. Items may also be submitted online through the Mirror’s virtual newsroom at vnr.altoonamirror.com. Items should be submitted by 4 p.m. Monday for publication in the Friday paper.
