Rosary rallies planned

— Rosary Rally for Fatima will be held at noon Saturday, Oct. 10, at St. Catherine of Sienna Catholic Church, Duncansville. Those participating should meet at the shrine for rosary and prayers for the nation. Safety precautions of mask wearing and social distancing is requested. — A Public Square Rosary Rally will be held at noon Saturday, Oct. 10, at Heritage Plaza, 11th Avenue and 14th Street, Altoona. Participants will gather to pray the rosary on the 103rd anniversary of the “Miracle of the Sun” at Fatima. The event is celebrated in over 20,000 cities around the world on this same day. Those attending are urged to bring a chair for seating.

Ham and peach pot pie available

Upper Claar Church of the Brethren, Claysburg, will sell ham and peach pot pie quarts by takeout or drive-thru from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17. Cost is $5 per quart. Orders are needed by Oct. 15 and can be made by Calling or texting 814-931-7130.

Free oil change offered

A free vehicle oil change is available to single mothers and widows from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 17. The event is an outreach of Hillside Community Church. To make an appointment, contact the church at 515-1062 with the year, make and model of the car. Because of COVID-19, vehicles will need to be brought to the site for servicing. The event will be held at the Sheetz training building lot on North Fourth Avenue and North Sixth Street, Juniata. Vehicles being serviced will also be washed free of charge.

Apple festival, blessing of the animals set

St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 335 Locust St., Johnstown, will hold an apple festival, bake sale and blessing of the animals from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, in the church courtyard. All things apple and assorted baked goods will be available for purchase. Proceeds from the sale will benefit St. Mark’s Digital Ministries.

Pets of any species are invited for a special blessing by the Rev. Nancy L. Threadgill. Dogs should be on leashes and other pets gently restrained as appropriate for their species. Those attending are asked to wear a mask and socially distance.

Novena celebrated

The 10th novena of the year 2020 to Our Lady of Mount Carmel and St. Therese offered by the Discalced Carmelite Nuns of Loretto will open on Thursday, Oct. 22, and end Friday, Oct. 30.

Petitions should be sent to Mother Prioress, Discalced Carmelite Monastery, P.O. Box 57, Loretto, PA 15940.

For those who missed the online Solemn Novena to St. Therese, it is still available on the nuns’ website at lorettocarmel.org.

Food boxes available

Our Lady of Lourdes on Broad Avenue will host a free food box giveaway from 9 to 11 a.m. every Saturday during October in the church parking lot. There are no requirements to receive the food and no one will be turned away. There will be 30.5 lbs. of food in each box.

Clothing giveaway planned

A clothing giveaway will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 10, at Grace Lutheran Church, 1114 N. Cambria St., Bellwood. Grace’s Closet will feature fall and winter clothing for all ages. Face masks are required.
