Annual Solemn Novena to be held

The Discalced Carmelite Nuns of Loretto will hold the annual Solemn Novena in honor of St. Therese of the Child Jesus and the Holy Face beginning Wednesday, Sept. 23, and ending on the Saint’s Feast Day, Thursday, Oct. 1. No public services will take place. Instead, nine talks will be offered by one of the Discalced Carmelite Friars and made available during the novena on the nuns’ website at lorettocarmel.org. There will also be a video of the nuns praying the novena prayers, so all can joing in gaining the blessings of the novena.

Ramey church to host Medjugorje Retreat

Medjugorje Retreat will be held at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 20-22, at St. Mary’s Annunciation Church, Ramey. All are invited to attend and learn about the Apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary and her messages for our times.

There will be Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament with the Rosary.

Speaker Ann Vucic will share her experiences in the beginning days of the apparitions until now. Each evening will focus on a different topic. There will be time for private healing prayers in the church after the presentation. Because of social distancing practices, this event will be held outdoors at the shrine.

Those attending should bring a folding chair for seating. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be held in the church.

Chicken barbecue dinners available

Drive-thru barbecue chicken dinner will be available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Polish National Catholic Church, 136 Hilltop Road, Lilly. Menu includes 1/4 chicken, parsley potatoes, corn on the cob, roll and dessert. No preorders will be taken.

Back to Church Sunday to be celebrated

Champion Life Church, 1314 12th St., is participating in National Back to Church Sunday, a nationwide event with over 15,000 churches participating, to welcome the community back to church. The theme is “Stronger Together,” a reminder that church is a place where everyone is welcome, and we are stronger when we live life together and with Jesus.

National Back to Church Sunday is on Sept. 20. Services at the church will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will be followed by a free turkey dinner and an activity for children.

Churches to meet for revival services

The Mines and Royer churches will hold revival services from 7 to 9 p.m. Sept. 21-23 at the Springfield Estates, 3733 Piney Creek Road, Williamsburg.

Pastor Eric Poteat, pastor at both Waterside and Koontz Churches of the Brethren, will be the speaker for all three nights. His topic will be “The God Who Desires to Include You.” The praise team will be Heritage Baptist from McConnellstown.

Yard/bake sale set

Asbury United Methodist Church will host a yard/bake sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at 1341 Grandview Road, Altoona.
