‘Polish Feast’ dinner planned
A drive-thru “Polish Feast” dinner will be available from
11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Polish National Catholic Church, 136 Hilltop Road, Lilly. The menu includes halupki, haluski, pierogies, a roll and dessert. Cost is $10.
Free lunches available
— A free lunch drive-thru will be held beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, at the Twenty-eighth Street Church of the Brethren, 2800 Union Ave., Altoona. The lunches will be given out while supplies last.
— Providence Presbyterian Church, 2401 Broad Avenue, Altoona, invites the public for a free bag lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug 15. The lunch will include a sandwich, a bag of chips, a dessert and fruit. The church will hand out one bag lunch per person in the church’s parking lot for drive through and walk ups while supplies last.
— Second Avenue United Methodist Church, 130 Second Ave., Altoona, will hand out to-go bagged lunches from 11:30 a.m. to
1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15. Lunches will be handed out at the Second Street door. Those attending are asked to keep social distance while waiting in line and wear a mask if possible. All are welcome.
Milk giveaway planned for Saturday
A milk giveaway will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, at Christ Community United Methodist Church, 5715 Roselawn Ave., Altoona. One thousand gallons of milk will be given away while supplies last. All are welcome.
The eighth novena of the year 2020 to Our Lady of Mount Carmel and St. Therese (the Little Flower) offered by the Discalced Carmelite Nuns of Loretto will open Saturday, Aug. 22, and end Sunday, Aug. 30.

Tables available for yard/bake sale
Asbury United Methodist Church will host a yard/bake sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at 1341 Grandview Road, Altoona. People may set up a table for $10. For more information about setting up a table, contact Donna Bardine at 814-946-5422.
Children’s backpack giveaways set
— The Faith Baptist Church of Altoona will host a backpack giveaway from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, in the church fellowship hall located in the lower level of the building. There will be 100 backpacks filled with school supplies available on a first-come, first-served basis. There will also be light refreshments and activities for the children. All children in the community who are in need of a backpack are invited.

— Juniata United Methodist Church is sponsoring a children’s back-to-school backpack giveaway from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 15. Backpacks will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis to families of children in kindergarten through high school. Families can drive through or walk up to the portico doors of the church to receive a backpack. Those attending are asked to wear a mask and follow social distancing guidelines.
